L.A. County Voters May Expand Board of Supervisors From Five to Nine

On Tuesday the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 to move forward with a proposal that would revamp county government by expanding the current number of board members from five to nine. The proposal would also establish the Count Executive Officer (CEO) as an elected position. Both Supervisor Holly Mitchell and Supervisor Kathryn Barger abstained from the vote citing cost and other concerns.

COUNCILMEMBER TRACI PARK IS FAILING OUR COMMUNITY–CD11 CONSTITUENTS PLAN VENICE ACTION IN PROTEST

LOS ANGELES, CA – The CD11 Coalition for Human Rights calls on Mayor Karen Bass and other City leaders to intervene on behalf of CD11 constituents who are being criminalized, displaced, and banished from the Westside at the behest of a Councilmember who answers primarily to real estate interests, police, and a minority of homeowners. Traci Park is failing not only her constituents living in poverty, but all of us who desire to live in a vibrant and diverse community that embraces people of all economic classes.

ANOTHER VICTORY IN COURT CLEARS THE WAY FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN VENICE

LOS ANGELES, CA — For the second time in the past month, the Los Angeles Superior Court rejected an attempt to block the Venice Dell Community, a City-approved affordable and supportive housing development. Judge James C. Chalfant ruled on Tuesday, June 4, that the City of Los Angeles acted fully within its rights to enter into a Disposition and Development  Agreement with affordable housing providers to provide 140 much-needed new affordable homes in Venice on a city-owned parking lot.

Santa Monicans For Renters’ Rights Makes Endorsements at Annual Convention

Grassroots organization Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights held its annual convention Saturday, where it endorsed candidates for key races in Santa Monica ahead of the 2024 Election.  SMRR made 12 candidate endorsements at the convention: four for the City Council, two for the Rent Control Board, and three for both the Santa Monica/Malibu Unified School (SMMUSD) District Board and the Santa Monica College (SMC) Board of Trustees.
