State Budget, Local Exodus Loom Over Inglewood Unified
At the Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, parents and teachers lined up to express their frustration with the state of education in the district. Under receivership, the district has struggled against declining enrollment and lack of autonomy. The district announced the closure of five schools in April, citing financial necessity. The IUSD Board of Education has been relegated to that of an advisory board under Administrator James Morris, who was appointed by the L.A. County Office of Education. Board members, in reality, currently have little power.
State Receivership Leads to Inglewood School Closures
When Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) announced the closure of five schools last week, most were angry but few were surprised. District administrator James Morris stated that the closures were due to low enrollment rates, but that didn’t stop students from affected schools from staging walkouts.
Beverly Hills Men’s Hoops Bests Inglewood, 52-43
The Beverly Hills High School men’s basketball team tipped off against Inglewood High School Monday night, as the two evenly matched teams squared up for what was assumed to be a close game. Beverly Hills, led by head coach Jarvis Turner came into the game with a 12-10 record and sat second in the Ocean League. Inglewood, led by head coach Jason Porter, was 10-9 and was in third place in the league. A home game with the full band and cheer squads in effect gave Inglewood the possible edge in a tough matchup between two teams that had similar seasons so far. But after beating Inglewood by ten points earlier this month at home, the Normans fully expected to compete in this game.
Inglewood Men’s Soccer Falls to Hawthorne, 4-1
With twelve minutes left in the first half, Inglewood Sentinels sophomore Kevin Weldekidan scored a goal against the Hawthorne Cougars during Friday’s game.
