WeHo City Council Roundup : Plant-Based Food Policy; Capital Work Plan; Pay Raises; Agreement with LASD
The West Hollywood City Council adopted a resolution mandating that all City-sponsored events in which food is provided must be plant-based foods by default, but allow people to opt into food that contains animal products. The policy shall apply to City-sponsored events and meetings in which the City provides food to participants. It does not apply to co-sponsored events or private events taking place in the City of West Hollywood or events with food for purchase from food trucks or other vendors.

Last Saturday, June 15, the WeHo Pride Arts Festival hosted Q Con, Southern California’s only LGBTQ+ comic convention. A celebration of queer representation in media, Q Con featured informational panels including one with voice actors from “X-Men ‘97,” a costume contest, and a film screening of “Surge of Power: Where There’s Smoke.”

The West Hollywood City Council on Monday voted 5-0 to direct the city attorney to research the feasibility of expanding the current ban on retail sales of dogs and cats in West Hollywood to add other animal species to the list such as hamsters, rats, mice, and a limited number of fish. The motion also aims to expand the current ban to prohibit the sale of arachnids, birds, other mammals, amphibians, and reptiles.

The City of West Hollywood kicked off its celebration of the 2024 Pride Month with its annual celebration of Harvey Milk Day on Wednesday. The event was held at the West Hollywood Aquatic and Recreation Center Respite Deck as the sun set over the skyline.
