Standing Up for the Women of Iran
Last week, Mayor Pro Tem Sepi Shyne adjourned a session of the West Hollywood City Council in the name of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman who was murdered by that country’s “Morality Police.” When elected in 2020, Shyne herself became the first out LGBTQ Iranian elected anywhere in the world, and became the West Hollywood council’s first elected woman of color.
ENDORSEMENT: Vote Yes on Proposition 30
Governor Gavin Newsom is making it his mission this election year to defeat Proposition 30. He’s certainly spending more time as a spokesperson against it than he is getting himself re-elected. So, what is Proposition 30? In short, it’s a measure that would tax the very rich to fund electric vehicle infrastructure and wildfire prevention programs. Specifically, Prop 30 would:
ENDORSEMENT: Vote NO on Propositions 26 and 27
You can’t watch television these days without being assaulted by ads for and against Proposition 27. The proponents of 27 have also invested a great deal to turn Californians against Proposition 26, a measure that would allow gaming tribes in California to offer sports betting in person at tribal casinos and horseracing tracks, as well as allowing them to add roulette and some dice games to their portfolio.
EDITORIAL: King of the Jerks Strikes Again – Sheriff Raids Home of Supervisor Kuehl
L.A. County’s current sheriff, Alex Villanueva, has struck again. The man we have previously named “King of the Jerks” served search warrants on Wednesday morning to 81-year-old County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl and a sheriff’s citizen’s oversight commissioner, Patti Giggans. The corrupt to the core sheriff’s office claims the raids were part of an “ongoing investigation” into a contract given to Giggans’ domestic violence nonprofit several years ago. But anybody with any sense for this thuggish sheriff knows it was an effort to bully and intimidate leaders who question his embarrassing tenure as the county’s top cop.
