ENDORSEMENTS: Raskin, Torosis, Zernitskaya for Santa Monica City Council
In 1995’s “The American President,” screenwriter Aaron Sorkin gave these beautiful words to fictional President Andrew Shepherd in the dramatic press conference scene near the end of the movie: “America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You’ve got to want it bad, ‘cause it’s gonna put up a fight.” Santa Monica is much the same way. And this year, with the very survival of rent control essentially on the ballot, we recommend electing Ellis Raskin, Caroline Torosis, and Natalya Zernitskaya to the city council. We also have very kind words about candidates Jesse Zwick and Albin Gielicz, but more on them in a moment.
ENDORSEMENT: Lindsey Horvath for County Supervisor
Bob Hertzberg is a 1990s Democrat. Lindsey Horvath is a 2022 Democrat. We strongly opt for the latter and hope you will join us in voting for Lindsey Horvath for 3rd District Supervisor representing the Westside and the San Fernando Valley.
ENDORSEMENT: Erin Darling for L.A. Council District 11
The two candidates in the runoff for L.A.’s furthest Westside city council district are Erin Darling and Traci Park. We didn’t endorse in the primary, but have both met and interviewed Mr. Darling in the months since, and have followed both campaigns closely. And every day, it becomes increasingly clear to Westside Voice that the far and away best choice for Council District 11*(CD11) is Mr. Darling. We encourage residents to give him their enthusiastic vote.
Malibu Council Opposes Latest Santa Monica College Bond Measure
On Monday evening, the Malibu City Council unanimously voted to strongly oppose the bond measure to support a $375 Million effort to fund an upgrade of facilities and build student housing at Santa Monica College (SMC).
