EDITORIAL: For the Good of the Country, Feinstein Must Step Down

We take no particular pride in calling for Senator Dianne Feinstein’s resignation. Though she’s never been progressive, she has chalked up some major legislative accomplishments and governed in a fairly noble, almost too bi-partisan spirit since taking office 30 years ago. We were among those who cheered when, in 1992, California elected two women, Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, to the Senate before California was really true Blue.

As Federal Rulings Loom, County Provides Update on Abortion Safe Haven Program

A war is being waged in Federal Court over access to crucial abortion medication, but Los Angeles County residents should be able to breathe easy. As potential major changes to abortion medication access could take a key abortion medication out of the United States market, Supervisor Lindsey Horvath led a discussion on the Abortion Safe Haven Project, which was instituted in L.A. County following the 2022 Supreme Court case that overturned Roe v. Wade, at the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting held Tuesday.

1991: The Summer I Interned for Pat Schroeder

On Tuesday, I texted my Aunt Kay to see if she had seen the news that pioneering former Congresswoman Pat Schroeder had died. Pat was a national figure during her time in Washington and so word of her passing on Monday is making national news. Kay and my Uncle Clem lived in Denver and Arvada for several decades. My cousins all grew up there in the suburbs and were in high school around the time of Columbine. Pat was not their representative, as she represented the urban core of Denver.

We Applaud West Hollywood’s Drag Laureate Program

If some of the nation’s more reactionary Republican governors are to be believed, one of the greatest threats to children in the United States right now is drag shows. You read that correctly. The thought would be laughable if it weren’t so dangerous. Because we all know that not only are drag shows not a threat to children, nor an indicator of how they will identify as they mature, but they are also hardly the last stop for the extreme right-wing that is more and more emboldened in the MAGA era.
