A Political Veteran and A Neighborhood Activist Vie for Assembly District 51
When voters in one densely populated sliver of the Westside vote in the November 8 election, they’ll have two Democrats to choose from in the State Assembly’s 51st District. The newly drawn district, most of which is currently represented by outgoing Assemblymember Richard Bloom, includes Beverly Hills, Hollywood and the Hollywood Hills, Los Feliz, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, and Westwood Village. Their choices are literally A to Z with Louis Abramson and Rick Chavez Zbur emerging from the June 7 Primary.
Santa Monicans for Renters Rights (SMRR) Endorses Candidates and Ballot Initiatives
On a hot but breezy day at John Adams Middle School, members of Santa Monicans for Renter’s Rights (SMRR) met outdoors under a canopy on Sunday to consider endorsements for City Council, School Board, Santa Monica College Board, Rent Control Board, State Assembly, County Supervisor, and a host of local ballot initiatives.
State Assembly and Senate Pass Senator Sydney Kamlager’s Housing Bill, SB 679
The Westside’s own Sydney Kamlager, whose State Senate district spans Cheviot Hills to Downtown Los Angeles, south to Gramercy Park and Westmont, has successfully shepherded her Senate Bill 679 through both houses of the state legislature by a single vote in each house. The legislation would, for the first time, establish an L.A. County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency.
United to House L.A. Coalition Launches Westside Effort to Pass Measure ULA
It was a cooler than expected evening on Tuesday at the Safe Place for Youth access center in Venice. Activists had gathered to launch the Westside’s campaign effort for L.A. City Measure ULA on the November 8 ballot.
