Culver City: Vote Yes on Measures BL and VY
Local ballot measures are often of great importance to how residents of a city experience their lives there, and Measures BL and VY on Culver City’s November 8 ballot certainly fit that bill. We encourage Culver City voters to support both measures.
ENDORSEMENT: Vote Yes on Proposition 28
Politicians – usually conservative ones – love to talk tough on education issues, saying things like, “We need to get back to the basics – reading, writing, and math!” This continues to be true, and is perhaps growing worse, the longer the country remains so bitterly divided and is in constant cultural warfare. We already know the Republican Party is retreating from any support of truthful science, and we’re fairly terrified of exactly what kind of science will be taught going forward in solidly red/conservative states. But that’s not what’s on the ballot with Proposition 28, which is an effort to increase arts and music education programs that were on the chopping block well before debates over climate change or COVID-19.
An Interview with 28th Senate District Candidate Lola Smallwood-Cuevas
The newly drawn 28th State Senate District is an open seat due to State Senator Sydney Kamlager’s run for a Congressional seat that shares much of the same area -- which includes Culver City, Ladera Heights, Mar Vista, Palms, over to South Central L.A. and West Adams.
Yaroslavsky, Yebri Battle for L.A. Council District 5
In the June 7 primary for Los Angeles City Council District 5, two unelected community leaders ascended as the “top two” vote getters qualifying for a November 8 runoff: Katy Young Yaroslavsky and Sam Yebri. The 5th includes parts of West L.A. that surround Beverly Hills to the west, east, and south. It includes Bel Air, the Fairfax District, and Westwood. I spoke at length which each candidate to get a sense of their qualifications for city council and their views on the issues dominating our Westside discourse.
