Homeless Services Providers Facing Months Long Delays Awaiting Reimbursements from LAHSA
At Tuesday’s L.A. County Board of Supervisors meeting, five major nonprofit leaders that provide much of the homeless services in Los Angeles spoke for two hours about the months-long delays in getting reimbursed by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA).
Judge Hears Closing Statements in Barrington Plaza Trial
Judge H. Jay Ford heard the closing arguments from the Barrington Plaza Tenant Association and property owner Douglas Emmett at the Santa Monica Courthouse on Monday. The case will determine whether the potential mass eviction of the tenants at the complex located at 11740 Wilshire Blvd. by the landlords for renovations is legal and permissible.
Malibu Council Grants Appeal of Proposed Motel Development; Builder Can Try Again
Beverly Hills-based property owner Surfrider Plaza, LLC, is planning a new hotel northeast of the Malibu Pier, with Malibu-based Burdge and Associates Architects designing the project. The Malibu Inn Motel would be a two-story, approximately 7,693-square-foot building containing 20 guest rooms and amenities, as well as parking for 47 vehicles in a surface lot and garage, and would be located at 22959 Pacific Coast Highway. The motel would be built on the site of a parking lot located between Aviation Nation and Chabad of Malibu.
Santa Monica Extends Local Homelessness Emergency into 2025
The homelessness crisis is still being acknowledged in at least one Westside city. The Santa Monica City Council passed a motion unanimously Tuesday night to extend the Local Emergency in the city on the issue of unhoused residents for another year. The previous declaration was set to expire at the end of the month, but will now be in effect until May 31, 2025.
