LAUSD Parents Sound the Alarm on Proposition 28 Arts & Music Funding
Last Tuesday, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board of Education approved the district’s report on Proposition 28 spending. In 2022, California voters passed Proposition 28 – the Arts and Music in Schools Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act. Arts organizations, unions, and parent groups across the state have sounded the alarm on mismanagement of Prop. 28 funds, saying school districts have failed to deliver on arts education.
Congressmember Kamlager-Dove Hosts Juneteenth Book Reading at Culver City Library
Efforts to educate on the importance of Juneteenth continue at the youngest ages. Congressmember Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-37th) hosted a Juneteenth Book Reading for kids at the Julian Dixon Library in Culver City on Thursday. She was joined by Culver City Unified School District Board Member Triston Ezidore and Los Angeles County Library Director Skye Patrick to read books to young children in attendance.
Citizens of the World Charter Educators Vote to Unionize with UTLA
Leslie Libaw comes from a union family. Her parents were educators and union members. Her father was so devoted to his union that he always carried his contract in his pants pocket. Libaw has been pro-union for her entire life but has worked at a non-union school, Citizens of the World Charter Schools (CWC LA), Mar Vista, for almost a decade. That changed last week when more than 90 percent of CWC educators voted to unionize with United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA).
