Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) held a regular board meeting this Tuesday. Points of contention during public comment and board member discussions centered around the use of tablets and other personal devices in Beverly Hills classrooms and an increase in class sizes at the newly constructed El Rodeo Elementary.
SMMUSD Board Celebrates Staff and Gains in Restorative Justice and Antiracist Curriculum
During Thursday’s board meeting, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) leadership highlighted their progress towards their social justice goals, celebrated classified employees, and spotlighted Roosevelt Elementary.
SEIU Local 99 Ratifies Tentative Agreement with Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District
SEIU Local 99 reached a tentative agreement with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) on April 30. Last Thursday, the union reported that the agreement was ratified by the rank-and-file by a large margin. Local 99’s bargaining unit had spent around eight months at the table with SMMUSD. In recent months, Local 99 mobilized to fight for a better contract by staging informational pickets and speaking out at board meetings. Increased wages, benefits, and hours were central to their negotiations with the district.
“Stop the Carvalho Cuts”: UTLA and SEIU 99 Rally Outside LAUSD Headquarters
United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 99 gathered yesterday outside of the Los Angeles United School District (LAUSD) office to protest budget cuts imposed by Superintendent Alberto Carvalho. Thousands of teachers and education workers took to the street under a “Stop the Carvalho Cuts” banner while the LAUSD Board of Education held its general meeting.
