County LGBTQ+ Elected Officials Celebrate Unity, Formation of LACLEO
On Friday, Los Angeles County LGBTQ+ Elected Officials (LACLEO) celebrated the inaugural installation of its founding board members and board members-at-large. LACLEO met for the first time last summer and officially formed the nonprofit this April. Their formal swearing-in of the board signals, especially as the November election nears, that they are mobilizing to win.
WeHo Mayor John Erickson and Commissioner Danny Hang Win Powerful Progressive Endorsements from Tenant Group, Unions and LGTBQ+ Civil Rights Leader
West Hollywood, CA – Six progressive worker, renter, and civil rights leaders have endorsed Mayor John Erickson and Commissioner Danny Hang for this fall's West Hollywood City Council elections. Today, renters' group Coalition for Economic Survival (CES), the hotel workers’ union UNITE HERE Local 11, LGBTQ civil rights leader Cleve Jones, the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 770, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 11 all announced their endorsement of Mayor Erickson and Commissioner Hang. Both Mayor Erickson and Commissioner Hang are themselves renters and both are long-time supporters of raising the minimum wage. These six progressive organizations have named them as the candidates who will best fight for working families and renters to be able to live, work, and play in West Hollywood.
Two Faces of Jonkonnu: Resistance and Joy Tradition Through an Immersive and Contemporary Lens
The City of West Hollywood Community Center in Plummer Park came alive with history, culture and heritage on Saturday, August 10th when International Eye LA presented ‘Two Faces of Jonkonnu: Resistance and Joy.’ The event was part of an ongoing project by Jamaican artist Marie Kellier to support revival of Jamaica’s Jonkonnu tradition. It was funded by a grant to International Eye LA from the City of West Hollywood Arts Division.
Route 66 Sign Design to Celebrate WeHo’s 40th Anniversary May Now Focus on Highway’s 100th
On Monday, the West Hollywood City Council voted 5-0 in favor of a supplemental motion for staff to come back later with recommendations for a new Route 66 sign design for the 100th anniversary of the famous highway.
