WeHo Council Wrestles With How to Designate Replacement Units
At their recent meeting on Monday, October 17, the West Hollywood City Council discussed what policy should be taken regarding rent-stabilized housing units when they are removed via demolition and new housing construction takes their place. They also wrestled with whether a policy put forth by the Planning and Development Department should be immediately adopted, or whether the issue first required more study.
West Hollywood Leaders Study Nighttime Safety Concerns
Recently, a joint subcommittee comprised of members from the city’s Public Safety Commission, Women’s Advisory Board, LGBTQ+ Advisory Board, and Transgender Advisory Board came together to suggest a special session to address concerns over nighttime safety in West Hollywood. On Tuesday evening, the city council convened a study session with representatives of these boards and commissions.
West Hollywood Limits Annual Rental Adjustment to Three Percent
Monday evening, the West Hollywood City Council considered lowering the annual rental increase allowed to landlords from a formula-determined six percent down to three percent, citing financial hardship to rent-burdened residents.

To say that White Americans have a lot to answer for is the understatement of the last several centuries. But some cities, including Culver City, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood (and San Luis Obispo), are looking for ways to better understand their racist pasts and pay some kind of restitution to African Americans. City leaders have willingly accepted the encouragement they have received to give their Black residents a boost after centuries of racist policies which have done everything from holding them back to taking their lives.
