WeHo Council Denies Appeal, Approves New Housing Development at 8500 Santa Monica Blvd
On Monday evening, the West Hollywood City Council heard an appeal to a Planning Commission approval of a mixed-use development at 8500 Santa Monica Blvd, at the corner of La Cienega. The proposed building would come after the demolition of an existing, one-story commercial building and a billboard, and include, according to the staff report, “approximately 33,159 square-foot, six-story, mixed-use building containing 30 dwelling units above approximately 3,627 square feet of ground floor commercial space over a two-level subterranean garage with 31 parking spaces.”

If some of the nation’s more reactionary Republican governors are to be believed, one of the greatest threats to children in the United States right now is drag shows. You read that correctly. The thought would be laughable if it weren’t so dangerous. Because we all know that not only are drag shows not a threat to children, nor an indicator of how they will identify as they mature, but they are also hardly the last stop for the extreme right-wing that is more and more emboldened in the MAGA era.
West Hollywood Finalizes It’s Housing Element for 2021-2029
On Tuesday evening, the West Hollywood City Council heard Francisco Contreras, the city’s Long Range Planning Manager, and Jerry Hittleman, Senior Contract Planner, present a final version of the city’s Sixth Cycle Housing Element for the period of 2021-2029. Contreras called the housing plan an “ambitious policy document” that tackles the city’s challenges with “housing affordability, equity, and sustainability issues” and “facilitates the preservation and development of housing in the city.”

Monday evening, the West Hollywood City Council was presented with a proposed change to the municipal code that would make it’s COVID-era outdoor dining availability a permanent fixture in the city. John Keho, the city’s Director of Planning and Development Services, summarized a 14-page staff report and presented the following recommendations to council that they should:
