County LGBTQ+ Elected Officials Celebrate Unity, Formation of LACLEO
On Friday, Los Angeles County LGBTQ+ Elected Officials (LACLEO) celebrated the inaugural installation of its founding board members and board members-at-large. LACLEO met for the first time last summer and officially formed the nonprofit this April. Their formal swearing-in of the board signals, especially as the November election nears, that they are mobilizing to win.

West Hollywood, CA – Six progressive worker, renter, and civil rights leaders have endorsed Mayor John Erickson and Commissioner Danny Hang for this fall's West Hollywood City Council elections. Today, renters' group Coalition for Economic Survival (CES), the hotel workers’ union UNITE HERE Local 11, LGBTQ civil rights leader Cleve Jones, the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 770, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 11 all announced their endorsement of Mayor Erickson and Commissioner Hang. Both Mayor Erickson and Commissioner Hang are themselves renters and both are long-time supporters of raising the minimum wage. These six progressive organizations have named them as the candidates who will best fight for working families and renters to be able to live, work, and play in West Hollywood.
Community Rallies to Get Ceasefire Resolution on Culver City Council Agenda
On Tuesday, Culver City for Peace gathered at the Culver City Council meeting asking the council to agendize a ceasefire resolution. Since Israel’s war against Hamas began, 16 cities in Southern California and 172 cities across the U.S. have passed resolutions calling for a durable and lasting ceasefire, the release of hostages taken on October 7, and the release of Palestinian prisoners.

As the first day of school nears, unresolved crises at L.A. Unified loom. In May, Superintendent Alberto Carvalho attempted to redeploy on-campus police officers to 20 schools in the district. Carvalho’s attempt was largely unsuccessful – police were only installed at two school campuses – but the desire to revert to policing still lingers.
