Community Rallies to Get Ceasefire Resolution on Culver City Council Agenda
On Tuesday, Culver City for Peace gathered at the Culver City Council meeting asking the council to agendize a ceasefire resolution. Since Israel’s war against Hamas began, 16 cities in Southern California and 172 cities across the U.S. have passed resolutions calling for a durable and lasting ceasefire, the release of hostages taken on October 7, and the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Controller Mejia Condemns Supreme Court Ruling Allowing Cities to Criminalize Homelessness
Today, the US Supreme Court ruled that Los Angeles and other cities can criminally punish people for sleeping outside - clearing the way for cities to punish unhoused people for their existence - even when those cities do not have places for those people to sleep. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals previously ruled that it is “cruel and unusual punishment” to criminalize people for sleeping outside when there is no available shelter.
Congressmember Kamlager-Dove Hosts Juneteenth Book Reading at Culver City Library
Efforts to educate on the importance of Juneteenth continue at the youngest ages. Congressmember Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-37th) hosted a Juneteenth Book Reading for kids at the Julian Dixon Library in Culver City on Thursday. She was joined by Culver City Unified School District Board Member Triston Ezidore and Los Angeles County Library Director Skye Patrick to read books to young children in attendance.
The Veterans Collective & Greater L.A. VA Celebrate Groundbreaking of Two New Supportive Housing Buildings on West L.A. Campus
On Friday, the Veterans Collective (TVC) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles along with federal, state, and local elected officials celebrated the groundbreaking of two new supportive housing developments that will provide a total of 87 new homes for Veterans experiencing homelessness on the West Los Angeles VA North Campus.
