Concerned Culver City Residents Hold Demonstration Demanding Street Safety

There’s still a stain of Phoebe Kiekhofer’s blood on the street where she was hit by a truck. A member of the nonprofit Bike Culver City, Kiekhofer was one of several speakers at a vigil held by the organization Monday night. In response to a recent fatality on a major Culver City street, demonstrators and advocates gathered at the intersection of National Boulevard and Wesley Street before marching to City Hall to demand street safety improvements in the area and beyond.

A mom whose grandparents came to the United States through the Bracero Program that allowed Mexican citizens entrance to the country to work in agriculture, she is running in the Culver City Council race as potentially the first Latina council member in the city’s history. Her journey helped define who she is, but her thinking as a candidate is rooted in the future.
