Culver City Celebrates Opening of First “Safe Sleep” Site
Culver City is stepping into a new realm in the fight against homelessness. The city’s first Safe Sleep site — a designated area that will give up to 40 people experiencing homelessness a sheltered and safe space to rest inside a former parking lot at 10401 Virginia Avenue.

Amid Some Controversy, Culver City Council Affirms Support for Rent Control and Renter Protections
Several members of the public sounded off at the Culver City Council meeting on Monday night around an item that was pulled from the consent calendar. Consent Item 10, or C-10, called for the council to receive a progress report on the status of implementation of the rent control and tenant protection ordinances adopted by the city in recent years, as well as to renew contracts with several vendors that help implement the program, promote it, and provide legal services to tenants and landlords.
Culver City Council Appoints Interim Chief Jason Sims as the New Chief of Police
On Monday evening, following their extended City Budget discussion, the Culver City Council took the term “Interim” off of new Police Chief Jason Sims’s title. Community members praised Sims during public comment, with Kelli Estes saying, to Sims and audience members over the phone, “The city and community are very lucky to have someone of your caliber serve in this role.” She pre-emptively added, “Any negative comments will not reflect the majority of residents and businesses in our city.”
