Eight candidates squared off at the Democratic debate hosted by the Santa Monica Democratic Club at the main branch of Santa Monica Library on Nov. 15. The Club even had to switch locations from a smaller room at Virginia Avenue Park due to demand, which counted more than 250 in person. Another 300-plus attended over Zoom.

A Crowded Field is Challenging George Gascon for District Attorney

A crowded field of candidates has entered the district attorney’s race this year in a bid to unseat Los Angeles County D.A. George Gascon, who last year faced a failed recall attempt after following criticism for his policies as district attorney.  Gascon’s three years in office have been controversial. After taking office in 2020, he pledged to ease prison sentences for minor crimes and misdemeanors and prosecute more police officers for misconduct.

L.A. County Board of Supervisors to Build “Living Shorelines;” Approves Temporary Cap on Rent Increases

The county board of supervisors approved several motions this week, including: Board Takes Steps to Provide Volunteer Aid to Displaced Armenians   The Board passed a motion to provide humanitarian aid to displaced Armenians resulting from the Azerbaijan/Artsakh War.Submitted by Supervisors Horvath and Barger, the motion condemns the war, and encourages humanitarian aid by instructing the Director of Health Services to collaborate with Traveling Doctors in providing volunteer opportunities and educational materials, including participating in telehealth services specific to treating burn wounds and skin grafting techniques for current victims.
