L.A. City Council Orders Staff to Compile Rent Data on Unpaid Rent

By |December 14th, 2023|

A major deadline is coming soon for Los Angeles renters, and the city council hopes to be ready for it. At its meeting on Tuesday, the L.A. City Council tasked city staff with gathering extensive data related to renters and their unpaid rent. This request comes in the wake of the expiration of the COVID-era protections from the city’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO) on February 1, 2024, after which unpaid rent from October 1, 2021, to January 31, 2023, will be due and rents may be increased by up to four percent on properties that are under the RSO.

By |December 12th, 2023|

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Helicopters cost over $100,000 a day and aren’t used for crime-fighting most of the time. Those are some of the conclusions reached from an audit, released Monday, of the LAPD’s Air Support Division by the Los Angeles City Controller’s Office. According to the audit — which analyzed data from Fiscal Year 2018, which began July 1, 2018, to Fiscal Year 2022, which ended June 30, 2023 — the use of police helicopters costs the city of Los Angeles $127,805 per day to operate, coming out to around $46.6 million per year.
