Culver City’s Mayor McMorrin Seeks Second Term on City Council.

Over 100 supporters gathered at the Palm Sophia Rooftop on Saturday, June 15th to kick off the re-election campaign of Mayor Yasmine-Imani McMorrin’s for Culver City Council.

“I’m so grateful to our Culver City community for joining me in kicking off this re-election
campaign,” said McMorrin. “The growth I was able to experience, the conversations I have had
with residents and business, and the state of the city remind me that we can be on the path to
the future if we believe it. I look forward to the work ahead, and continuing to connect with those
all across our city to create a Culver City that all are welcome and all can thrive.”

Yasmine-Imani McMorrin is the first Black woman in the 106-year history of Culver City to serve
as a Council Member, and the first to be elected as Mayor. Throughout her first term, she
worked tirelessly to further a broad range of policies to improve Culver City for residents,
businesses, and visitors alike, including helping to establish the city’s innovative Mobile Crisis
Unit, and its new Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee.

During the kickoff, Mayor McMorrin was introduced by her daughter and her mother, whose
touching remarks framed the poignant and inspiring story of McMorrin’s family life.

Elected officials who spoke at the event to express their full support for McMorrin’s campaign
included CA State Senator Lola Smallwood Cuevas, West Hollywood Mayor John Erickson,
Culver City Council Member Freddy Puza, former Mayor of Culver City Meghan Sahli-Wells,
former City of LA Council Member Mike Bonin, and Culver City School Board Vice President
Triston Ezidore.

“Yasmine has made sure that our years of community organizing for environmental justice to stop oil drilling resulted in successful, decisive legislation – policies that will protect our health
and our planet for generations to come,” said former Mayor Sahli-Wells, citing the City Council’s
decision to stop all new drilling in Culver City, and phase out existing drilling in a 100-year-old
oil field.

McMorrin passionately explained her motivation for running for re-election, and her feeling
energized to continue fighting for affordable housing, transit and mobility options, green
community spaces, and a comprehensive approach to public safety. An attorney, equity
advocate, and mom, McMorrin pledged to help make Culver City a model of responsive
government, and improve the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and plays in the city.

The Culver City Council election will be held with the U.S. General Election on Tuesday,
November 5, 2024. Culver City residents are encouraged to vote.
