According to Lieutenant Johnny Bures of the Texas Department of Public Safety, a preliminary investigation found that a 2016 Hyundai Sonata was traveling east on the highway while a 2023 Kenworth truck-tractor pulling a semi-trailer was traveling west.

Investigators said the Hyundai Sonata failed to remain in its lane and crossed into the westbound lane.

The vehicle entered the path of the oncoming semi-truck, and the two vehicles collided in the westbound lane of U.S. Highway 287.

The driver and both passengers in the Hyundai Sonata died at the scene.

The driver was identified as 27-year-old Eduyn Yohande Torrealba Evias of Denver, Colorado.

The passengers were identified as 33-year-old Yusney Alexeya Mora Mora, also of Denver, and a 4-year-old child.

Officials have not released the child’s name.

According to DPS, the driver of the Kenworth semi-truck was not injured in the collision.
