18-Year-Old Arrested After Fatal Thornton Shooting Leaves One Man Dead

Thornton police have arrested an 18-year-old suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning. Authorities said the victim was taken to a hospital after the shooting but later died from his injuries.

Incident

The shooting happened shortly before 1:45 a.m. in the 3600 block of East 91st Avenue, near Meadow Community School in Thornton.

According to Thornton police, officers responded after receiving reports that a person had been shot and that the suspect had fled the area.

When officers arrived, they found an adult man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Victim

Police said the 44-year-old victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Despite medical efforts, the man later died from his injuries.

Authorities have not publicly released the victim’s identity.

Investigation

Detectives began investigating the shooting after securing the scene and collecting evidence.

According to Thornton police, investigators identified a suspect during the course of the investigation and obtained an arrest warrant.

Thornton police identified the suspect as 18-year-old Cesar Licon Jr.

With assistance from the Commerce City Police Department, officers located and arrested Licon later that same evening.

Licon was arrested on a charge of murder and booked into the Adams County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not announced whether additional charges could be filed.
