The collision occurred at about 8:20 p.m. as the motorcycle was traveling northbound on state Route 509 from Pacific Avenue, the Washington State Patrol said.
Troopers reported that the motorcycle struck a barrier and came to rest in the second of three northbound lanes. No other vehicles were reported to be involved in the crash.
Both riders were pronounced dead at the scene.

On Sunday afternoon, the Washington State Patrol identified the victims as Rene Herrera Dimas and Maria Luisa Herrera Roman. Both were 39 years old and residents of Tacoma.

Road Closure
State Route 509 was closed for more than three hours following the crash to allow investigators to examine the scene and clear debris from the roadway. Traffic was rerouted while troopers completed their investigation.
