Competitive eater Joey Chestnut added another chapter to his record-setting career Saturday, winning the 2026 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest for the 18th time at Coney Island.

Men’s contest

Chestnut consumed 66 hot dogs and buns in the 10-minute competition, securing the men’s title once again. While he fell short of his own world record of 76 hot dogs set in 2021, Chestnut said he felt confident early in the contest that he would take the win.

“I knew I was going to be able to get the win,” he said afterward. “I realized early on that I wouldn’t set a new record.”

He added that he believed he had more capacity left. “I’ve got so much room left,” Chestnut said.

Heat conditions

The contest took place during a heat wave, which Chestnut acknowledged may have affected his performance.

“I don’t want to make excuses, but yeah, it did,” he said. “It slowed me down. There’s room for improvement.”

Preparation

Ahead of the event, Chestnut told “Good Morning America” that he was feeling ready for the competition.

“Feeling good, I’m hungry, and it’s a beautiful day,” he said. “This is going to be a great Fourth of July.”

Asked about his pre-contest routine, Chestnut said he had been preparing with a cleanse. “I’m empty and I’m loose,” he said.

Women’s contest

In the women’s competition, Miki Sudo won her record 12th Nathan’s title by eating 38.75 hot dogs and buns.
