Tow Truck Driver Critically Injured in 210 Freeway Shooting, CHP Investigation Ongoing

A tow truck driver is in critical condition after being shot while responding to a service call on the 210 Freeway in the San Gabriel Valley early Friday morning, according to authorities.

Incident

The shooting occurred on the eastbound 210 Freeway near Grand Avenue while the driver, who has not been identified, was responding to a gas call from AAA. The driver works for Jan’s Towing, a company representative told KTLA.

California Highway Patrol officials said the driver was struck by gunfire during the call and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Later Friday, a Jan’s Towing representative confirmed the driver remained hospitalized and was fighting for his life.

Company statement

Jan’s Towing released a statement on social media expressing support for the injured employee and those affected.

“Right now, our hearts are with our employee, their family, our team and everyone affected,” the company wrote. “Out of respect for the family and the ongoing law enforcement investigation, we will not be commenting further or sharing additional details at this time.”

Suspect pursuit

CHP said the suspect fled the freeway following the shooting and was later located at a gas station in Covina around 3 a.m. Authorities said the suspect exited the vehicle while armed, leading to an officer involved shooting.

According to CHP Lt. Dan Keene, officers immediately provided medical aid to the suspect, who was transported to a hospital and later pronounced deceased.

Investigation and closures

The two connected shooting incidents prompted a large CHP investigation and led to the closure of the eastbound 210 Freeway for several hours Friday morning.

Authorities have not released further details about what led up to the initial shooting or the identities of those involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
