Residents near Desert Inn Road and Maryland Parkway are searching for answers after an overnight shooting left bullet holes in apartment buildings and parked vehicles, though authorities say no one was injured.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded just before 1 a.m. Tuesday to reports of shots fired near the 1000 block of Lisbon Street. By early morning, investigators were still at the scene collecting evidence, with shell casings visible along sections of the street.
Scene
Police activity continued into daylight hours as officers examined damage to nearby apartments and vehicles. Several windows and walls were struck by gunfire, and at least one parked car was hit, according to investigators.
Video from the area showed officers moving through the complex while dumpsters burned nearby. Police later clarified that the fires were not connected to the shooting.
Witness
Daniel McGuire, who lives in the area, said he began recording video after hearing multiple gunshots outside his apartment.
“It was a complete war zone,” McGuire said, describing the scene as chaotic and frightening.
He said the gunfire appeared to last several minutes and came close enough that he felt compelled to hide inside his apartment.
“I had to hide, shut off my lights, and I’m freaking out,” he said.
Impact
Although no injuries were reported, residents said the damage left behind highlighted how close the gunfire came to people inside their homes.
McGuire said he was particularly concerned about families living nearby.
“There’s people with kids over there,” he said. “There’s families over there that had nothing to do with this.”
Investigators confirmed that apartments and at least one vehicle were struck during the shooting.
Investigation
Police have not released details about potential suspects or what may have led up to the shooting. Authorities have also not said how many shooters may have been involved.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine what happened and who was responsible.
Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
