Nancy Barba earned four more top endorsements in her run for Culver City Council, expanding the support she has already received from a broad range of community organizations, labor unions, civic groups, elected leaders, and numerous current and former appointed officials.
Kenneth Mejia, Controller for the City of Los Angeles, announced his support by touting Barba’s open, responsible, and compassionate approach to managing city finances.
“As someone who believes in transparency and accountability for city governments, I appreciate Nancy Barba’s public record of standing up for care-centered and bottom-up budgeting,” said Mejia, who as Controller serves as the elected paymaster, auditor and chief accounting officer for the City of Los Angeles. Controller Mejia oversees a team of more than 160 employees who conduct independent audits and investigations, manage the city’s accounting, payroll, and spending, report on the city’s finances, and provide transparency on city operations, policies, metrics, and data.
“I am honored to receive Controller Mejia’s support,” said Barba. “Managing the budget is a critical function of city government that cannot be underestimated. The way Culver City administers its finances has a massive effect on the lives of our residents. Our fiscal priorities should reflect the immediate needs of our constituents, while furthering the policy goals we hope will improve their lives in the future.”
Barba’s campaign also won new endorsements from three organizations: Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, and Friends of the Earth Action.
“We appreciate that you recognize the importance of organized labor’s support for your candidacy,” wrote a representative of the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters. We “…have carefully reviewed your qualifications and feel you best exemplify the ideals and understand the issues that concern the working men and women we represent.”
“Friends of the Earth Action appreciates Nancy Barba’s commitment to prioritize the community over industry interests,” read a statement from the group. “With plans to improve transportation accessibility, advance clean energy policy, and advocate for renters, this candidate represents the kind of leadership we need more of in public office.”
“I am grateful to receive the endorsements from these respected organizations, including the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, whose commitment to protecting our environment and promoting sustainable solutions aligns deeply with my vision for Culver City,” said Barba. “Together, we can tackle the urgent challenges of climate change, protect our natural resources, and ensure that future generations inherit a healthier, more resilient planet. I am committed to making environmental and mobility justice a priority and look forward to working alongside organizations like LALCV to create a greener and more equitable future for all.”
