- Minhwa: The Elegance of Korean Folk Paintings

KCCLA, in collaboration with the Minhwa Department at Dongduk Women’s University and the Korean Folk Art Association Los Angeles is pleased to present this special exhibition, the second in a series of traditional Korean art showcases designed to advocate for traditional Korean arts beyond popular culture. With aims to highlight the importance of Korean art and share the spirit and allure of traditional arts with Southern California audiences.

Free admission days at the Autry were recently updated to include both Tuesdays and Wednesdays, making this the perfect mid-week break to explore classic cowboy culture in a semi-academic setting. Along with permanent collections, there are currently two new shows on display, Wendy Red Star’s celestial-inspired photography and ReVOlt 1680/2180: Sirens & Sikas, a retelling of the Pueblo revolt against the Spanish.

Amazon MGM Studios will host a one-day event across Los Angeles celebrating their hit series “Fallout” receiving 17 Emmy nominations. In tribute to the drama’s iconic “Vault 33” set, the studio is collaborating with 33 local businesses to offer exclusive deals and discounts themed to Fallout. For those not able to make it out to any of the public locations, Grubhub will be the exclusive delivery partner of the day, with customers receiving a “Fallout”-inspired gift with purchase on orders from select partners. The woman who has been lauded by her opposition as “the most powerful Speaker” explains why she isn’t afraid of a good fight. Actress Tracee Ellis Ross of “Black-ish” fame will moderate.

In this cheeky comedy, a pair of NPR-listening, latte-sipping liberals planning a family with the help of IVF is thrown for a loop when they find out their fertility clinic has accidentally implanted their embryo in another client’s uterus. And not just any client either, the other couple are NASCAR-loving, NRA cardholders who will test their limits as the two couples try and cultivate a working relationship throughout the pregnancy.

For one night only audiences can enjoy an unforgettable outdoor concert of R&B, soul, and disco era hits with the iconic group Sister Sledge. Jen DM and Danny Dolan of DJ pair Fashion Forward will open the night’s celebrations with the very best of Sister Sledge and their classic discotheque hits. Limited seating will be available for the concert, RSVPing in advance is recommended.
- “Happy Fall: A Queer Stunt Spectacular”

“Happy Fall” follows the professional and romantic arcs of two queer, closeted stuntmen in the Hollywood world of faux masculinity, bringing the allure of film trickery and its toll on the body and psyche to center stage through a variety of immersive mediums including life-size and mini puppetry, live video, cinematic illusions, and audacious physical acts. Based on real stories and direct testimonies, this wild production is a loving tribute to the endurance of the LGBTQ+ community. The play is recommended for mature audiences.
- CicLAvia – Meet the Hollywoods

CicLAvia returns this Sunday with “Meet the Hollywoods,” an event that will open up some of Los Angeles’ most popular tourist destinations. CicLAvia will close 6.6 miles of normally traffic-infested streets, connecting East Hollywood through West Hollywood and will encourage participants to be tourists in their own neighborhoods. With the absence of polluting traffic, locals and tourists have the safety and freedom to walk, bike, skate, and stroll at their own pace.

The exhibition, The Book of Marvels, Wonder and Fear in the Middle Ages, takes a look at an illuminated manuscript made in the 1460s that weaved together tall tales of places near and far. Told from the viewpoint of a medieval armchair traveler in northern France, the global locations are conveyed as both odd and captivating with some xenophobic undertones (a product of their time) towards the dangerously different. The exhibit will also feature additional objects that highlight how the overlapping sensations of wonder and apprehension created the Western stereotypes of the “other” that endure today.

El Matador is known for being on the smaller side and features some rocky outcrops, but there’s no beating the view. Described as one of the most picturesque pieces of coastline in L.A. County, with a pair of shoes and light gear, this western Malibu beach is accessible via a steep gravelly path from a parking lot. There are no lifeguards or facilities, but it’s still a great spot to take in the final rays of the day. Watch out for high tide. Arriving early or staying late should allow for an unforgettable dawn or sunset.
