  1. Paris Olympics Openings Ceremony in IMAX – Friday 7/26 at 10:30 a.m. – Multiple Locations

Spend your morning saying, “Bonne chance!” to Olympic athletes at the XXXIII Olympiad. For those looking to experience the action, one can enjoy the opening ceremonies via NBC/Peacock for a more relaxed WFH option. But if you’re looking for a little more excitement, head to several IMAX theaters to catch the ceremony live on a big, immersive screen. Tickets start at $23; Westside locations include: the AMC Century City 15, at 10250 Santa Monica Blvd. or at AMC The Grove 14, at 189 The Grove Drive.

  1. Jazz at LACMA: Bruns & Baché – Friday 7/26 at 6:00 p.m.

LACMA’s free Friday night jazz concert series continues with nine-piece retro-soul band, Bruns & Baché. Members of the group have played with the likes of Beck and Bublé, and their last album was in the top ten on the jazz charts. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is located at 5905 Wilshire Blvd., admission is free.

  1. Can’t Even Comedy’s Stand Up for Pets! – Friday 7/26 at 7:00 p.m.

Bring your four-legged friend with you for this multi-species-friendly comedy show at the Annenberg PetSpace. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets earn guests two drinks. A portion of the proceeds go toward the PetSpace Extraordinary Care Fund. Featured comedians include Taylor Williamson, Leah Knauer, Hugo Galaxy, Angie Stroud and Antjuan Tobias with Caitlin Benson hosting and music from DJ CLASSIC MATERIAL. The Annenberg PetSpace is located at 12005 Bluff Creek Dr. and tickets start at $25.

  1. The Local-ympics – Saturday 7/26 from 2:00-5:00 p.m.

Billed as a fun twist on the classic Field Day, the Localympics is a free beach day in Santa Monica for those over 21 years old. Free entry but RSVP is requested so that evenly numbered teams can be formed for beach events with fun, Olympics-style twists. Located at Santa Monica Beach, with an exact location yet to be announced, celebrate the 2024 Olympic Games with good friendly fun, “no athletic skills needed.”

  1. MUSE/IQUE: ‘Plenty of Heart, Plenty of Hope’ – Friday 7/26 to Sunday 7/28

MUSE/IQUE, one of the most innovative theater shows happening in Los Angeles, is currently showcasing “Plenty of Heart, Plenty of Hope,” a piece exploring the history of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic musical “Oklahoma” and its impact on Broadway. Located at The Wallis, 9390 N. Santa Monica Blvd., tickets begin at $75.

  1. Barbie The Movie: In Concert – Saturday 7/27 at 8:00 p.m.

This Saturday at the Hollywood Bowl you can be “Kenough,” with a screening of “Barbie,” with live orchestral accompaniment. Conductor Macy Schmidt will lead the Barbie Land Sinfonietta, an all-women majority women-of-color musical ensemble in conjunction with the blockbuster Greta Gerwig film. The Hollywood Bowl is located at 2301 N. Highland Ave. with tickets starting at $31.

  1. Peter Pan at The Pantages – through Sunday 7/28

Celebrated Indigenous playwright Larissa Fasthorse helped modernize the classic Jerome Robbins play, resulting in a much more inclusive story. So, while this isn’t quite the “Peter Pan” most will remember it is the last weekend to catch it in Los Angeles before it moves on to Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County. The Pantages is located at 6233 Hollywood Blvd., tickets start at $48.

  1. Shakespeare by the Sea – Sunday 7/28 at 7:00 p.m.

Shakespeare by the Sea will be performing “Cardenio” on the South Lawn of Exposition Park (between the Coliseum and the Museum of Natural History) on Sunday, July 28. While some of the locations “by the sea” are a bit of a stretch, it’s never a bad time when listening to the timeless words of The Bard for free.
