Santa Monica, CA – Today, the Dan Hall for Santa Monica City Council campaign announced over $40,000 in fundraising as of the first reporting deadline of June 30th. The fundraising milestone, which far exceeded an internal campaign goal of $35,000, leaves the renter, Army veteran, and Santa Monica Pier Board member in a healthy position early in the election cycle. “A strong showing is vital for proving momentum and viability,” a campaign email to supporters stated ahead of the deadline.

Since announcing in March, Dan Hall’s campaign has focused heavily on establishing early fundraising, which is seen as an indicator of likely electoral success in local races. This is especially true in Santa Monica, where lower individual donor limits allow for outsized influence of political action committee (PAC) spending that does not face the same limits, granting millionaires and corporations significant sway. The Hall campaign does not accept donations from corporate PACs. While the final fundraising amount remains unofficial ahead of filing with the City Clerk, $40,000 far exceeds the amount any Council candidate has raised by the first June reporting deadline in the past four election cycles.

“I’m so grateful for the outpouring of financial support from local and regional donors who are excited by the generational change my candidacy represents, and the opportunity to partner with new elected leadership in Santa Monica. I am especially honored by the many former soldiers and West Point classmates who know my commitment to public service and have chosen to financially support my campaign. I wouldn’t be here without their confidence in me,” Hall remarked of his donors.

Hall held his final fundraiser of the quarter on Sunday morning, June 30th, at a private home in the North of Montana neighborhood, where he was introduced by Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur. “Dan is someone who is incredibly smart, incredibly dedicated, and incredibly hard-working,” said Assemblymember Zbur, one of Hall’s earliest endorsers. “He’s someone who is principled; he’s guided by the values I think we all share.”

In addition to Zbur, Hall is endorsed by former Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, Councilmembers Davis, Torosis, and Zwick, eight former Santa Monica Mayors, and over a dozen other current and former Santa Monican elected officials.

Recently Hall earned key endorsements from the following local, state, and national organizations:

  • Santa Monica Democratic Club

  • Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights

  • Santa Monica Forward

  • Community for Excellent Public Schools

  • Equality California

  • Streets for All

  • Run For Something

  • New Politics

  • Safer California
