Pickleball is taking West L.A. by storm! This wildly popular sport is a fun and social game for people of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting, here’s your guide to finding the perfect pickleball court in West Los Angeles. From public parks to private clubs, there are numerous options to suit your preferences and schedule!
Bill Rosendahl Del Rey Park, Marina del Rey
The Bill Rosendahl Del Rey Park offers a tranquil escape from the city’s hectic pace. This verdant urban oasis, named after the late Los Angeles City Councilmember, is a well-loved destination for locals and visitors alike. The park has a sprawling playground, a dog park, a basketball court, and three outdoor pickleball courts, which are dedicated pickleball courts with permanent lines and nets. These well-lit courts are free to use on a first-come, first-served basis. This park is my go-to spot for a quick game of pickleball with my friends, as no reservations are needed, and it doesn’t get super crowded.
Beverly Hills Tennis Pickleball Program
If you want to learn how to play pickleball or take a lesson to improve your game, go to the Beverly Hills Tennis Pickleball Program, which offers group classes and private sessions. Their group classes run all year round and private lessons can be booked for up to four players. Their pickleball courts can also be rented from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. However, prior reservations are needed.
Creekside Park, Brentwood
Creekside Park is a beautiful park located in the heart of Brentwood. The park has four pickleball courts, a large playground, a picnic area, and a walking path. It is also home to abundant wildlife, including ducks, geese, and turtles. The newly refurbished state-of-the-art pickleball courts feature permanent lines and nets. Moreover, there is a tall fence around all the courts with a windscreen, making it possible to play even on fairly gusty days. There are court dividers as well, so you’re not constantly interrupted by errant shots from other courts. These free pickleball courts cannot be reserved in advance.
Pickle Pop, Santa Monica
Located on the Santa Monica Promenade, Pickle Pop houses three indoor pickleball courts, where it hosts open play, clinics, social events, and private parties. This spot is perfect when it’s too hot, raining, or windy outdoors. Players can rent a court beforehand or jump in on open play—member or not. They also have a pro shop where you can purchase or rent pickleball equipment and apparel.
Griffin Club, West Los Angeles
A members club, Griffin boasts four new pickleball courts that players can drop in on Wednesdays and Fridays and book a court throughout the week. You can also elevate your skills with a private lesson or meet other pickleball enthusiasts by checking out their events. With top-of-the-line equipment, the Griffin Club is wildly popular for experienced pickleball players.
Kimpton La Peer Hotel, West Hollywood
The Kimpton La Peer Hotel is a high-end hotel known for its chic design, well-appointed guest rooms, and extensive amenities. Their pickleball court is a spiffy court situated on the hotel’s rooftop. It is a dedicated court with a permanent net and lines, and it is open to the public for rentals and drop-in play. The court is also equipped with restrooms, lights, and food, making it a convenient and fun place to play pickleball. I love this pickleball court as it’s one of the only rooftop courts in West Los Angeles. In addition, the skyline views it offers are spectacular!
Santa Monica Pickleball Center
The Santa Monica Pickleball Center has become a much sought-after spot for pickleball in West Los Angeles. The center features four outdoor courts where you can open play, take lessons, and participate in group clinics. The center also has a pro shop and an equipment store on site. The Santa Monica Pickleball Center is an ideal venue for beginners to take pickleball lessons. The well-lit pickleball courts can be reserved, but a one-time fee is required to play. Courts are $60/hour, or $15 per person for a group of four.
At West Hollywood Park, players can play pickleball on one of six outdoor courts. Players can reserve a court beforehand or go during the open-play times that the park has every day. The park also houses a range of additional amenities including grassy areas, a playground, and a swimming pool. All pickleball court reservations are $8/hour (or $4/half hour).
