Five young suspects, including juveniles as young as 14, were taken into custody early Wednesday morning following an alleged armed robbery and police pursuit that spanned multiple Seattle precincts, according to the Seattle Police Department.
Incident
Officers responded to the 2900 block of 1st Avenue after a 20-year-old man reported being threatened with firearms. The victim told police he was driving on a ramp toward Dexter Avenue while attempting to access Denny Way when a white minivan, possibly a Dodge, pulled alongside his vehicle.
According to police, the minivan was occupied by several individuals and began driving erratically. While stopped next to the victim’s car at a traffic light, two occupants allegedly pointed guns at him.
Fearing for his safety, the victim drove through a red light in an attempt to escape. The suspect vehicle followed him westbound on Denny Way.
Pursuit
Seattle police later located the suspect vehicle and initiated a pursuit in the West Precinct. Officers temporarily lost sight of the vehicle in the North Precinct, but it was later spotted again in the Southwest Precinct.
Police successfully ended the pursuit and arrested all five occupants. During the incident, several southbound lanes of State Route 99 near South Atlantic Street were blocked because of police activity. The roadway was fully reopened by about 5 a.m.
Arrests
SPD arrested four juveniles for investigation of assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. The juvenile suspects include three boys and one girl, ranging in age from 14 to 17. They were booked into the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center.
An 18-year-old man was also arrested and booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault.
Investigation
The suspect vehicle was impounded and transported for further processing. Police have not released additional details about the firearms involved or whether any property was taken.
The investigation remains ongoing.
