A 40-year-old man died after being stabbed during an early morning fight in west Phoenix, and police say the man who wielded the knife was later arrested on an unrelated out-of-state homicide warrant.

Incident
Phoenix police responded to reports of an aggravated assault at about 4:20 a.m. on July 24 near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road.
When officers arrived, they found 40-year-old Christian Yepiz Fonseca suffering from multiple stab wounds. According to Phoenix Police Cmdr. Mercedes Fortune, Fonseca was in extremely critical condition.
Phoenix Fire Department personnel transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigation
Detectives identified a 59-year-old man as the person involved in the stabbing and detained him at a nearby hotel.
According to investigators, Fonseca and five other unidentified men had cornered and assaulted the 59-year-old man before the stabbing occurred.
Police have not released the identity of the 59-year-old man.
Arrest
Although the 59-year-old man was not booked on charges related to Fonseca’s death, officers discovered he had an outstanding out-of-state arrest warrant in an unrelated homicide case.
He was arrested based on that warrant.
