Entiat Crash Update – Young Father Paralyzed, Another Man Critical After Highway Wreck

Two men injured in a serious crash near Entiat, Washington, are continuing treatment at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle as their families deal with the medical, emotional and financial impact of the collision.

Family members say one of the men has been left paralyzed from the waist down, while the other remains in intensive care with a skull fracture and brain bleed following the May 5 crash on US 97A.

Incident

According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 5:45 a.m. near milepost 222, about five miles north of Entiat.

Investigators said a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze was traveling southbound when it drifted onto the right shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle then entered a ditch, struck an embankment connected to a private driveway, traveled over the driveway and came to rest on a hillside.

Authorities have not yet announced what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Family members said the two occupants were heading to work when the crash occurred.

Victims

The injured men were identified as 23-year-old Francisco J. Macedo-Paz of Orondo and 25-year-old Moses L. Aparicio of Manson.

Due to the severity of their injuries, both men were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center, a regional trauma center in Seattle that treats patients with critical injuries from across Washington state.

Relatives of both men have since created GoFundMe pages to help cover medical and household expenses during their recovery.

Injuries

Family members said Macedo-Paz suffered life-changing injuries in the crash. According to information shared through the fundraiser organized on his behalf, he is paralyzed from the waist down.

The fundraiser also states that he suffered a broken right arm and multiple broken ribs, some of which punctured his lungs. Since arriving at Harborview, he has reportedly undergone two hip surgeries and one surgery on his arm.

Relatives said doctors have not provided a clear timeline regarding his long-term recovery or whether full mobility may return. He remains hospitalized because of the level of specialized care and rehabilitation equipment required for his condition.

Aparicio also suffered significant injuries. According to his family’s fundraiser, he remains in the intensive care unit with a fracture at the base of his skull, a cerebral hemorrhage, facial fractures and a dislocated left shoulder.

The fundraiser further states that he has experienced complications involving leaking spinal and cerebral fluid, along with severe swelling and ongoing pain.

Family members said he is expected to remain hospitalized for several more weeks as doctors continue treatment and monitoring.
