Two people were taken to the hospital Saturday morning after a vehicle pursuit in Belfair ended with a crash into a utility pole and the arrest of a felony suspect, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
Incident
The chase began after Mason County deputies responded to a report of two people who appeared to be unconscious inside a BMW parked at a Safeway parking lot in Belfair. A bystander contacted authorities, prompting deputies to check on the occupants.
When deputies approached the vehicle on foot, the suspects fled the parking lot, nearly striking the deputies, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said the vehicle did not have license plates at the time of the encounter.
Chase
During the initial escape, the suspects collided with a patrol vehicle and another parked car. Deputies then pursued the BMW from Northeast Clifton Lane to State Route 300 and onto Northeast North Shore Road.
Authorities said the suspects attempted a U-turn on North Shore Road, where they struck a second unoccupied police vehicle. After that collision, the vehicle fled back toward Belfair.
Crash
The pursuit ended on Northeast Belfair Tahuya Road when the BMW crashed into a utility pole near Tahuya Road. Deputies said both occupants sustained injuries during the final crash.
Following the collision, both the driver and the passenger were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been released.
Arrest
After the crash, deputies discovered that the passenger was wanted on a felony warrant for escape from custody and drug possession, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities said the driver is expected to face multiple charges, including assault of a law enforcement officer, felony eluding, driving under the influence, and drug-related offenses. Formal charges are expected to be filed after the investigation is completed.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office said two patrol vehicles were damaged during the pursuit. No deputies were reported injured.
