A Lake County man is in custody after officials say he killed a woman and then carried out a series of road rage shootings across multiple Bay Area counties before being arrested following a pursuit in Napa County.
Authorities described the events as a fast-moving and violent sequence that began Friday morning and ended with the suspect’s arrest several hours later.
Initial Incident
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the first incident was reported around 8:30 a.m. Friday near the intersection of State Highway 29 and Point Lakeview Road in Kelseyville. Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired and determined the incident appeared to be a road rage shooting.
By the time deputies arrived, the alleged shooter had already fled the area. No suspect was immediately taken into custody, and investigators began working to identify the vehicle involved.
Second Shooting
Roughly two hours later, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office received a separate 911 call from a woman in the 1000 block of Dunaweal Lane in Calistoga. The caller reported that she had been shot in the face by another driver during a road rage encounter, according to Napa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Henry Wofford.
The woman survived the shooting and was able to provide information to authorities. Investigators from both counties began coordinating efforts as similarities between the incidents emerged.
Pursuit and Arrest
Using automated license plate reader data, deputies identified a vehicle matching the suspect description traveling along Highway 29 in the St. Helena area. When Napa County deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, leading officers on a pursuit through Napa.
Deputies eventually performed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. The driver, identified as 38-year-old Coleman Guy Rocheleau, was taken into custody without further reported injuries, Wofford said.
Discovery of Homicide Victim
After his arrest, Rocheleau told Napa County detectives that there was a third victim in Lake County, authorities said. Lake County deputies were then dispatched to the 10000 block of Terrace Way in the Kelseyville Riviera area to conduct a welfare check.
At that location, deputies discovered the body of a woman. Officials have not released her identity, pending notification of next of kin. Investigators have not yet shared details about how or when the woman was killed.
Charges and Background
Rocheleau was transported to Lake County and booked into jail, where he is being held on suspicion of murder and felony torture. Bail has been set at $2 million.
Court records from Contra Costa County show that Rocheleau has prior convictions. In 2017, he was found guilty of injuring a domestic partner and falsely reporting a bomb, according to available records.
Ongoing Investigation
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Officials stated there is no known ongoing threat to the public at this time.
Authorities are continuing to review evidence from all involved counties to establish a full timeline of events and determine whether additional charges may be filed.
