Goodyear police have identified 77-year-old Penny Orloff as the victim of a fatal traffic collision earlier this month, marking the loss of a longtime performer, author and active supporter of Arizona’s arts community.
According to police, the crash happened on May 12 while Orloff and her longtime companion, Charles Long, were riding bicycles to a nearby park in Goodyear.
Long said the couple was crossing an intersection when a vehicle struck Orloff. Authorities confirmed the driver remained at the scene following the collision. Investigators are continuing to review the incident and are asking independent witnesses to come forward.
“I just can’t believe it. It’s just a nightmare,” Long said while reflecting on the loss.
Career
Orloff built a career that stretched across more than five decades in the performing arts. She worked as an actor, singer, dancer and author, becoming known for her contributions both on stage and within local arts organizations.
She and Long first met while working as opera singers in New York City. Over the years, the couple remained closely connected through music, theater and community arts programs.
