At least six people were injured in three separate shootings across South Seattle late Sunday and early Monday, according to the Seattle Police Department. Investigators say the incidents occurred in different neighborhoods within a span of several hours and do not appear to be connected.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators as detectives review evidence and work to determine what led up to each shooting.
SODO
The first shooting was reported shortly after 10:15 p.m. Sunday along South Lander Street in Seattle’s South Downtown, or SODO, neighborhood.
Police said multiple callers reported gunfire involving a King County Metro bus. Officers arrived and found a 39-year-old man sitting in the back of the bus with three gunshot wounds to his back. Seattle Fire Department medics transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center, where he is being treated.
A witness told police the suspect believed someone on the bus had stolen his property. The suspect exited the bus at a stop along South Lander Street and then fired shots toward the back of the bus, striking the victim.
The suspect was described as a Black man approximately six feet tall, wearing glasses, a white shirt, and black jeans.
The shooting occurred just blocks from Lumen Field, less than 24 hours before a scheduled FIFA World Cup match. Detectives are reviewing bus surveillance video in coordination with King County Metro.
Georgetown
Several hours later, around 1:20 a.m. Monday, officers responded to reports of another shooting along Swift Avenue South in the Georgetown neighborhood.
According to police, the shooting occurred during a house party. When officers arrived, they found multiple people fleeing the area and others attempting to assist victims.
Police said three victims were found at the scene, while a fourth was taken to a hospital by friends. The victims are ages 18, 18, 17, and 16. All are being treated for gunshot wounds. Their conditions were not immediately released.
Detectives are reviewing physical evidence, video footage, and witness statements to determine what led to the shooting.
Atlantic
A third shooting was reported later in the night along South Walker Street in Seattle’s Atlantic neighborhood.
Police said a 34-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds to both shoulders, his abdomen, and his lower back. Investigators said the victim and his partner had been involved in an altercation with an unknown individual inside a tent near South Walker Street and 24th Avenue shortly before the shooting.
The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
Investigation
Seattle police have not announced any arrests related to the three shootings. Investigators said the incidents appear to be separate and are being handled individually by detectives.
