A man was shot and killed Thursday morning during an argument at a park in the east Las Vegas valley, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Investigators say the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Incident
Metro police responded around 8:30 a.m. Thursday to reports of gunfire in the 4900 block of Lana Drive, near East Harmon Avenue and South Nellis Boulevard. Shortly after, dispatchers received another 911 call reporting that a person had been shot, LVMPD Lt. Robert Price said during a news conference.
When officers arrived, they located a man inside Maslow Park suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Response
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Lt. Price said officers immediately secured the scene and began a homicide investigation.
Circumstances
According to police, a group of three to four people had been sitting together on a bench inside the park prior to the shooting. At some point, an argument broke out among the group.
During the dispute, one person produced a firearm and shot the victim. All individuals involved left the area before officers arrived, police said.
Investigators have not said what led to the argument or whether the people involved knew each other.
