The latest Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) Valley Weekly Student Newsletter outlines a full schedule of events, academic support opportunities, and campus services available from November 24–30, 2025. As the semester winds down, students are encouraged to take advantage of workshops, tutoring, wellness activities, and essential resources before the Thanksgiving break.
Monday, November 24: Career Insights & Stress Relief
LAVC’s MESA Center will host Lunch with a Professional, featuring Julie Orloff, Supervising Criminalist with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. She will speak about careers in criminalistics and pathways into forensic science.
Also on Monday, the Associated Student Union (ASU) will hold a De-Stress Lab in SU 216. Students can relax with yoga, mini painting, and play-dough sessions.
Highlights include:
- Stress-relief kits for the first 24 attendees
- Lunch bowls and drinks for ASO-paid members
Tuesday, November 25: Club Day & Twilight Tutoring
The LAVC Student Union Plaza will come alive during ASU Club Day, where students can meet campus clubs, enjoy food and music, and explore opportunities to get involved.
That evening, the Academic Resource Center (ARC) is offering Twilight Tutoring in LARC 226. Free coffee, snacks, and tutoring will be available in:
- Anatomy
- Chemistry
- Math
- Writing
Wednesday, November 26: Food Support, Music Recital & Study Abroad Info
The Basic Needs Center will continue its weekly Monarch Market food distribution in front of the Unity Center, where all students may pick up free groceries.
Later in the day, the Music Recital Hall will host a free concert: What is Good Music (Part 1), featuring faculty artists Christian Coulter and Steve Goomas.
Students interested in global experiences can join an online information session about the Summer 2026 Study Away in Paris program, which offers the opportunity to study French abroad through the Los Angeles Community College District (hyperlink: LACCD official website).
Thanksgiving Holiday Closure: Nov. 27–30
The entire LAVC campus will be closed Thursday through Sunday, November 27–30, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Classes resume Monday, December 1.
The LAVC Welcome Center will provide registration and support services during regular hours before and after the holiday closure.
Ongoing Resources & Upcoming December Event
Students are reminded that the Metro GoPass Program has been extended, providing free rides on Metro buses and trains through September 30, 2026—a major financial relief for commuting students.
The annual LAVC Ceramic Sale will take place on December 3, with proceeds supporting the college’s ceramics program.
