The California Bus Association (CBA) wrapped up its annual convention and tradeshow in Visalia with three days of training, strategy sessions and a high-profile awards ceremony honoring standout companies and professionals from across the state’s motorcoach sector.
This year’s event blended nuts-and-bolts education on compliance, safety and operations with forward-looking discussions about marketing, regulation and post-pandemic growth.
A major emotional highlight came from keynote speaker Justin Osmond, member of the famous Osmond family, who shared his journey of perseverance and purpose. His story echoed the experience of many operators who have weathered intense economic swings, workforce challenges and shifting travel patterns while keeping their fleets on the road.
During the annual business meeting, the CBA Board renewed terms and filled a vacant director seat, appointing Fahri Cimen of Highline Charter to replace Mike Waters following his departure from Coach USA.
Ebmeyer Charter & Tour Named Operator of the Year
The Operator of the Year award went to Ebmeyer Charter & Tour, a third-generation business with more than 45 years in the industry. Peers praised the company’s strong core values, disciplined financial strategy and consistent reliability.
Ebmeyer operates debt-free and owns its fleet, facilities and real estate—an approach that has helped it remain stable through economic ups and downs. Colleagues also highlighted the company’s community involvement and charitable giving, saying Ebmeyer sets the bar for customer service, professionalism and sound business practice in California’s bus market.
Vickie Cole Memorial Award: Women in Leadership
This year’s Vickie Cole Memorial Award for Women in Leadership went to Jodi Merritt, president of H & L Charter. As a third-generation leader, Merritt has expanded the company’s offerings, invested in modern coaches and built a culture centered on safety, teamwork and accountability.
Beyond her day-to-day responsibilities, Merritt serves on the board of the American Bus Association and is active in the Women in Buses Council. She is widely known for mentoring women operators, championing family-owned businesses and advocating for small and midsize companies navigating complex regulatory and economic pressures.

“Thank you, Mike, for your extraordinary, legendary service and the profound impact you have made on countless members throughout the years,” said CBA President Michael Giddens. “Your legacy is an inspiration to us all.”
Maintenance Excellence: Willy Wondolowski
The Outstanding Maintenance Technician of the Year award went to William “Willy” Wondolowski of Gold Coast Tours, a 40-year industry veteran and shop foreman.
Wondolowski introduced a 3,000-mile / 45-day preventive maintenance schedule that significantly reduced roadside breakdowns and boosted fleet reliability. Colleagues credit him with mentoring multiple generations of technicians and fostering a shop culture built on precision, safety and continuous improvement.

In the Large Company category, Jose Retana Valenzuela of Lux Bus America was recognized as Outstanding Driver of the Year. With nearly 25 years behind the wheel, and nine years at Lux Bus, he is known for a spotless safety record and consistently high customer ratings.
Valenzuela serves as a Charter Mentor and lead driver in operations training. He is often assigned to high-profile charters, and clients frequently request him by name. Colleagues say his leadership was instrumental in helping his team win first place in a 2022 client roadeo competition.
Outstanding Driver – Small Company Division
The Outstanding Driver of the Year, Small Company Division went to Lonnie Reynolds of H.B. Limo Services. Reynolds has more than three decades of commercial driving experience and over 15 years as a commercial driver trainer.

“These individuals and companies exemplify the very best of California’s transportation industry,” said CBA President Michael Giddens. “Their leadership, skill, and professionalism set the standard for all of us.”
The California Bus Association thanked sponsors and partners who made the convention possible, giving special recognition to corporate partner Prevost for its continued support of the state’s motorcoach community.
The CBA also confirmed its 52nd annual convention will take place Oct. 25–27, 2026, in Rohnert Park, Sonoma County, promising another year of collaboration, training and recognition for operators, technicians and drivers across California.
