A Phoenix man has been arrested after police say he held a teenage girl against her will, subjected her to repeated abuse, and isolated her inside his apartment for more than a year.
David Jorge Ruvalcaba, 26, was taken into custody in north Phoenix after investigators said they found evidence of alleged sexual abuse, physical violence, and coercive control involving a 17-year-old victim who had reportedly been involved with him since she was 15.
Ruvalcaba faces several felony charges, including kidnapping, aggravated assault, strangulation, sexual conduct with a minor, and resisting arrest. Court records outline allegations of serious injuries and a long period of alleged abuse.
Investigation
The investigation began on July 27 when Phoenix police responded to Banner Thunderbird Hospital after the victim arrived for medical treatment.
According to court documents, a forensic nurse examination found more than 50 injuries on the victim’s face, arms, back, and legs. Investigators also documented signs consistent with strangulation.
The victim told detectives that during an incident lasting nearly 12 hours between July 25 and July 26, Ruvalcaba allegedly assaulted her multiple times inside his residence. Police records state that she reported being struck with a glass alcohol bottle and losing consciousness after being strangled.
Authorities began examining the victim’s history with Ruvalcaba as part of the investigation.

During a later attempt to make contact, a plainclothes officer reported hearing what sounded like a firearm being prepared inside the apartment.
Ruvalcaba eventually exited the residence but allegedly returned inside after seeing officers wearing police gear. Authorities said officers followed him into the apartment and arrested him.
A handgun was reportedly recovered near the suspect.
