The man accused of killing a woman and a toddler during an alleged attempted carjacking in Las Vegas has pleaded not guilty, according to court records.

Ziaire Ham, 22, appeared in court Thursday, June 11, where he entered not-guilty pleas to all charges. Prosecutors have filed 11 charges against Ham, including two counts of murder with the use of a deadly weapon and nine counts of discharging a firearm at or into an occupied structure or vehicle.

Shooting Incident

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred on March 2 at approximately 9 p.m. in the 1100 block of Victoria Medici Street, near Starr Avenue and Dean Martin Drive.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers were conducting an unrelated traffic stop in the area when they heard multiple gunshots, police said. Officers immediately drove toward the sound of the gunfire and discovered a vehicle that had sustained several bullet impacts.

As officers approached the vehicle, they found a woman and a toddler inside who had both been shot.

Victims Identified

Police identified the victims as 20-year-old Danaijha Robinson and 1-year-old Nhalani Hiner. Officers rendered aid until medical personnel arrived.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Investigators said Robinson had been watching a friend’s toddler at the time of the shooting.

Investigation and Arrest

According to information obtained by investigators, Ham allegedly attempted to steal the vehicle before opening fire on the occupants.

Police later identified Ham as the suspect. On March 3, he was arrested in the Salt Lake City area after allegedly stealing a vehicle in Phoenix, Arizona, authorities said.

Court Proceedings

During Thursday’s hearing, Ham waived his right to a speedy trial. He remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.

His next court appearance is scheduled for June 24.
