One person is dead and a driver is in custody following a chaotic and deadly sequence of events on Interstate 11 in downtown Las Vegas that ended with an officer-involved shooting, according to Nevada State Police.
The incident unfolded Wednesday, June 10, 2026, as state troopers were already investigating an earlier crash on northbound I-11 near the Fourth Street on-ramp. While troopers were on scene, investigators say a separate vehicle entered the area at a high rate of speed and drove recklessly through the crash zone.
What Happened
According to Nevada State Police, the vehicle struck a tractor-trailer while moving through the active crash scene. Troopers attempted to intervene, but the driver did not stop. Authorities said the vehicle continued through the area and then drove directly toward a trooper.
During the encounter, the vehicle struck the trooper and also hit a nearby passenger vehicle. At some point during the incident, a trooper fired their weapon, police said.
The vehicle then fled the scene.
Suspect Identified
Police later located the suspect vehicle at a Las Vegas-area hospital. The driver was taken into custody and transported for medical treatment. FOX5 Investigates later identified the driver as Sean Shirazi.
A passenger who had been in the suspect’s vehicle was also transported to the hospital. Authorities said that passenger later died from their injuries. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the passenger’s identity after next-of-kin notification and the completion of the identification process.
Officer Status
Nevada State Police said the trooper who was struck did not suffer serious injuries. As required by department policy, the involved troopers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Force Investigation Team has taken over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
