Denver police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at a city park on Easter weekend, an incident that ultimately claimed two lives and involved an exchange of gunfire during a family gathering.

The Denver Police Department announced Thursday that 18-year-old Dazirius Wilford has been arrested and is being held for investigation of first-degree murder. The arrest is connected to a shooting that took place on April 5 at Russell Square Park.
Police said detectives identified Wilford as a suspect in the shooting death of Pharrow Ware, who was also 18 years old at the time of his death.
Incident
The shooting occurred during the evening hours of April 5, when multiple people were gathered at the park for a family event. Police said an exchange of gunfire broke out between at least one person inside a vehicle driving past the park and at least one person attending the gathering.
Two people were transported to the hospital following the shooting.
Victims
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified the victims as Sharon Ware, 43, and Pharrow Ware, 18.
Sharon Ware died the night of the shooting. Pharrow Ware initially survived but died from his injuries a week later, on April 12, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Investigation
During the investigation, detectives identified a 34-year-old man who was attending the family gathering as the person who allegedly shot Sharon Ware during the exchange of gunfire.
However, the Denver District Attorney’s Office determined that homicide charges would not be filed against that individual, citing “no reasonable likelihood of conviction,” police said.
Authorities noted that while homicide charges will not be pursued, investigators are still evaluating whether other charges may be applicable in that case.
Status
Wilford remains in custody as the investigation continues. Police have not released additional details about the circumstances leading to his arrest or whether further suspects may be involved.
